Boubacar Traoré

Boubacar Traoré

Better known by the name of Kar Kar, or "black jacket", Boubacar Traoré, 54 years old, is a pioneer of modern Malian music. Born into a noble family from the town of Kayes, he has had his highs (as the voice of Malian independence on Radio-Mali) and lows (his fade-out from the Malian music scene, the death of his wife, Pierrette). The ups and downs of his career led him to France and London, where he recorded two discs, Mariama and Kar Kar. At the initiative of the Revue Noire, he produced his third disc in Bamako, Les enfants de Pierrette, with the participation of the great names of Malian music such as Ali Farka Touré, Toumani Diabaté and Kélétigui Diabaté.
After a twenty years' absence from the stage, he went looking for Baba Dramé in his native town of Kayes to record his latest album. His childhood friend and long-time buddy accompanies him on the calabash for this new disc, Sa Golo.
